President of Al-Azhar University Mohamed Hussein Mahrasawi expressed condolences on the death of Khazima bint Tohidu bin Yangu, elbalad.news website reported.
He said the Indonesian lady, who was a graduate of Al-Azhar, played a major role in promoting moderate Islam.
Khazima bint Tohidu bin Yangu was also a member of Indonesia’s Council of Scholars.
The Jakarta Institute for Quranic Studies was founded in 1971. It has been a major scholarly center for Quranic studies.
Quran memorization, Tajweed, Tafseer (interpretation) and recitation are among the themes of study at the institute.
